Volleyball is regularly smashed over the net on Thursdays. Our club's volleyball players meet in the gymnasium of the Rosarium School in Glauchau starting at 8:00 p.m. The fact that the level of play isn't all that bad is demonstrated by placings in larger tournaments for non-athletes. Athletes from our club can also be found at various regional beach events. We host our club volleyball tournament every year in March with four of our own teams.
If you don't use it, you lose it. True to this motto, our spry retirees besiege the weight room in the boathouse every Tuesday morning, keeping their limbs flexible and their muscles in shape. Exercise bikes are also available in the weight room for cardiovascular training. Under the expert guidance of our veteran trainers, many a drop of sweat is shed.
Unfortunately, this branch of the sport has a rather subordinate existence here. Apart from the (almost) regular participation of a few intrepid members in the Erzgebirge Ring, activities are limited to rather individual ventures by individual families. Of course, representatives of the Glauchau Canoeing Club have already been seen on the various wild rivers of the Alps, on the Ardèche and in the Massif Central, even in Corsica, in the Taurus Mountains above the tourist castles of Turkey, and also in Greece. Many a kilometer has been covered in touring canoes or folding boats on the lakes in Sweden and rivers in Poland. Nevertheless, there is enormous potential for improvement in this area, and we would welcome any initiative in this direction.
October 3rd of each year isn't just a holiday. The Waldenburg Canoe Triathlon is also a must-see in the club calendar. KSV Glauchau is present both as a co-organizer and, of course, with numerous participants. The deliberately short distances are intended to appeal to recreational athletes. Pairs compete in the men's, mixed, and family categories. First, one athlete must complete the 1.6 km (short) run and then send their partner on a bike for twice the distance. Once the partner has completed two laps around the Waldenburg Gondola Pond, they both jump into a two-person kayak and push themselves to the limit on a circuit (with a chicane). Of course, active canoeists have an advantage when paddling. But those who lack fitness during the run and on the bike won't be able to make up for their deficits in the boat. So, while our athletes are often on the winners' podium, they are by no means always at the top.
